Thenumberofviolentincidentsintheworkplacehasbeenincreasingsteadily,accordingtoastudybytheSocietyofHumanResourceManagement(SHRM).Nearly60percentofrespondentssaidviolencehadoccurredintheirorganizationduringthepastthreeyears,andtheyidentified"personalityconflicts"astheleadingcause.
Likebirth,death,choiceandchange,conflictisaconstantfactoflife.It'salsoafactoftheworkplace,especiallywhenyoudealorinteractwithpeople.Whiledisagreementsanddifferingopinionsarenormal,evenhealthy,inworkrelationships,conflictcancostyourcompanyproductivity,moneyandemployeesatisfaction.
Fifty-threepercentofworkerssaidtheylosttimeatworkworryingaboutapastorfutureconfrontationwithaco-worker,accordingtoarecentsurveybyresearchersattheUniversityofNorthCarolina.
Twenty-eightpercentofthosesurveyedsaidtheylostworktimebecausetheyavoidedtheconfrontationalcolleague,and37percentsaidahostilealtercationcausedthemtoreducetheircommitmenttotheorganization.Twenty-twopercentsaidtheyputlesseffortintotheirworkbecauseofbadbloodattheoffice.
